Spring Time (Autumn in Antartica)…..

The cherry blossoms have bloomed and summer is now on the way in the northern hemisphere…. Bela Lugosi is also apparently dead (and has been for over sixty years); I was recently asked to paint this Penguin book cover as a large (70 x 100cm) canvas commission, based on the Bauhaus goth rock song from 1982.

In March, I had started painting larger book covers on canvas. I’ve always steered away from this because there are several artists already doing their versions. But my own idea was to combine tributes to contempory artists on the covers, perhaps in a series. I started with Keith Haring and then Basquiat and Warhol followed….

I produced my 13th print in April - a Giclée of the Haring tribute, orange book cover. It is a larger size (A3) than previous prints and has been popular - in standard and hand-finished editions. I also added a small edition of A2 prints. There are plans to release the complimentary Warhol and Basquiat book covers in May and June.

Continuing with the theme of artist tributes, I’ve also been working on a series of bricks & blocks that pay homage to some of the greats. I’m up to about 30 now and am trying to get some kind of show or pop-up arranged for the summer.

I’ve been fortunate to be able to attend some great exhibitions and galleries early in 2024, including Invader in Paris, a visit to the MoMA in New York City, the art of Antony Gormley, Roby Dwi Antono and John ‘Crash’ Matos in solo London exhibitions, and a superb group show of sculptural works at the Hayward Gallery, on the South Bank.

Finally, I’ve had an influx of commission works recently and am excited to be given these opportunities; some of which will be visible in businesses. Watch this space! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you’d like a unique and bespoke brick, block, canvas or cardboard artwork (details in the commission section).

Have a great start to your summer and I hope to see some of you at the upcoming summer exhibitions in London….. and perhaps even at one for my own artworks!
